I usually use a liquid fabric softener in one of the self-dispensing containers that goes in the wash, because it's more economical than buying dryer sheets. But the Bounce bar is so easy to use and I don't even have to think about it! I guess I will at some point need to replace it but since I'm single and live alone it will probably last me a good amount of time. My only concern when first opening it was that the scent seemed really strong, and I'm not a fan of such heavy scent, but it has not been too overwhelming at all.
