    I was in a fix.  My homeowners' insurance had cancelled our policy when we finished paying off the house, as it was attached to our equity payment, and hadn't bothered to tell us!  For several years, we had no homeowners' insurance -- and didn't even know it!  Finally, when trying to get a home equity loan for kids' college expenses, we discovered that we had no homeowners' insurance!!!  And, of course, the original company (with whom we'd never had a claim, and for whom we'd always paid promptly) denied any responsibility, and wanted an exorbitant amount of money to reinstate us.  I called... read full review »
