Like so many other networking sites, facebook has profiles, friends, games and the like.

It has a substantial amount of features that make it easier to find old friends and classmates and reconnect.  I personally have reconnected with several people that I have not heard from in over 20 years!

As far as networking sites go, it's pretty simple.  The fact that it asks for your full name is a plus and keeps you onyour behavior, but keep in mind that anything you say or post can be seen by anyone, including your employer, or someone trying to stalk you.
