The Fisher price open top swing was a great help when my son was first born.  He loved the swinging motion which could go either front to back or side to side.  He also loved the mobile.  The mobile has leaves that open and shut on it which would really keep his attention.  It also had the capability to be plugged in to an outlet or be used with batteries.  It was very convienient when I ran out of batteries I could just plug it right in to the wall!
