I bought the Cosco Scenera in order to not empty the bank account-it had great safety reviews and was right at 50 dollars.  Spending more money, you weren't getting a better deal or a safer car seat.  I think a 5 lb child would seem VERY time in this seat, but I'm sure it would work fine.  This was our second seat-we had infant seats when my son was a newborn.  Colors work great for either gender too! I've known several grandparents to purchase this seat for their use if they don't have the grandchildren that often, it would be a great value and new!  Better than purchasing second hand where...
