Janet Evanovich is a great writer.  She brings the characters to life in the novel "One For the Money."  Stephanie Plum seems lke a real person, one that I feel like I have met before.   She is bungling and hilarious.  The book would never flow without the help of all of the characters that are assembled.  Grandma Mazur, Vinnie, Stephanie's parents, Morelli and the asssorted bad guys keep you wanting more.  The visual set that Evanovich paints for you is of a scene that most readers can tap into from thier memories and experiences.  The book is an easy read, and the series flows together...
