I didn't see a date on your review, hopefully your GD is well by now. If he still has loose stools after changing food, be sure to have the vet send the blood off to someone like Cornell for Pancreas testing. I had 3 Cavaliers very sick from The shredded blend and one bitch that was nursing now has a damaged pancreas. We have to put the enzyme on her food and let it sit for 20 minutes before feeding her. If I can do a paste i will add the problems we had:
I also feed Pro Plan Chicken and Rice for years. When I couldn't buy it last December, I bought the bags of Pro Plan Shredded Chicken, within 3 weeks my Cavaliers had stools that looked like cow piles, One bitch was nursing puppies, after testing for numerous germs, a local rottweiler breeder came into the vet with the same problem and using the same food. Vet had us put the dogs on canned EN and told us to change food. All but the bitch that was nursing pups turned around immediately. The mother was getting worse and beginning to look like a skeleton. Blood was drawn and sent to Cornell and results came back with Pancreatic Deficiency. She was put on Pancreatic Enzymes and with in three day her stools cleared up. It appears that the Pancreas is damaged, of course Purina is still denying that their is a problem. We spent over $800.00 in vet bills trying to clear up all the problems which included excessive dandruff (mange) hair falling out by the handfuls, and stools looking like cow piles. They were so starved they wanted to immediately eat their stools, I have talked to many breeders at Dog shows who have had the same problem with the Shredded Blend which apparently is a soy product. Advantage cleared up the skin problem, Flagel did nothing to stop or even slow down the diarrhea. Some dogs seem to be able to handle this food, but I wouldn't push it.
