Phantom of the Opera

Doesn't live up to the stage version

I found many things about this movie disappointed me. The "young and sexy" casting was a bad decision. Emmy Rossum does not have the singing ability to convincingly play Christine (who is supposed to be an opera singer!) and her acting was also mediocre. Gerard Butler is not a great singer either and it is hard to look past the fact that he is much too young to be playing the Phantom. His "deformity" was no worse than a bad sunburn. Patrick Wilson was a fine Raoul; I did not love his singing personally but he was by far the best of the three. I thought the rest of the cast did a fine job.... read full review »
