In her afterword, the author tells us that this book is "part memoir, part social history and part fiction." I had the good fortune to listen to this book as an unabridged audio book. It was read by a woman who had the perfect voice and Yiddish accent. From the first moment, I was drawn into the Roth family and the teaming streets of the Jewish ghetto in New York.
