The exercise ball works great for doing sit-ups, because you have a greater range of motion. I could really feel my abdominal muscles working, especially around my rib cage. It also helps when lifting weights, by making you rely on additional muscle groups for balance as well as strength. I would recommend the exercise ball if you are looking to add stabilization to your workouts, as well as to try something new.
