I have read many books about Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, but Jean Plaidy's book is, by far, one of the best explorations into the character of this controversial young woman. While the writing is simple and unaffected, it does not necessarily detract from the power of the story. — One of the strengths of this book is its viewpoint. Anne is in the Tower, looking back over the preceding years, from the time when she was a six-year-old girl sent to France in the retinue of Henry's sister Mary, who was going to marry King Louis of France.
