I purchased the North States Stairway Gate with a plastic mounting because it had a really good price. Too bad the value of the product seemed to be cheap as well! The two sides of the gate are mounted at different heights, which I didn't realize before I started installing it. I have moulding along my staircase that is 4 and 1/2 inches above the ground. This was perfect for the one side because that was how high the hardware needed to be, but the other side created problems..... The other side was to be installed at 3 inches above the ground. Well, I'm sure you're thinking what I did, just move...
