Why is milk so expensive ?

I just wander why milk has to be so expensive. I pay almost $ 4.00 a gallon and I think that is high way robbery. My husband can go through a gallon a week, and I just wander what the cost will be in the next few months. It goes up just as much as gasoline does. So here's something to think about. What costs more a gallon of gas, or a gallon of milk.
