I am a kindergarten teacher and I use this book regularly in my classroom.  I have done entire units around this story!  It can be used any time of the year and kids love it! 

 Some of my kiddos don't completely understand every aspect of the story.  However, once they begin to understand the concepts of real and make believe, they always enjoy adding their own imaginative characters and story lines.
