Completely not necessary!

a fiction reader, listening to books on tape, an avid reader, a sci-fi buff

While this book does slightly add to the core books, the "complete" books are not necessary. The book has no value to anyone not interested in the dungeons & dragons game. With Wizards of the Coast releasing 4th edition, this 3rd edition book is not obsolete. I only recommend for collectors or completests or those few who are in revolt against 4th edition.
