Have you heard of ADD or ADHD? Chances are, unless you've researched it or know someone who has, it's not what you think. Well, it may be, but it's not limited to those cases. ADD/ADHD can be less noticeable than the child who acts out in class or the seemingly uncontrollable co-worker. The condition can manifest itself a less visibly, with the person coming across as moody, lazy, impatient, or temperamental. For some of these people, the real story is that they're having a hard time adjusting to societal constraints. He or she may have trouble focusing on just one thing at a time, so when someone demands their undivided attention, frustration arises.
I've been studying ADD/ADHD and fit many, if not most of the symptoms and signs. Reflecting on my childhood, they have been there. I've been blessed in that with the guidance of my parents and community my ADD has actually helped me in the same ways it hinders many others. My difficulty with focusing on one thing at a time has led to my involvement with many great opportunities. It hurts at times, because I tend to burn myself out from over-involvement. Fortunately, I married early and started having children. They've forced me to mellow out and redirect my energies toward them. It's been a struggle, for them, and for me to adjust, but my family is worth the struggle.
I'll keep you posted with the journey.
