I have a friend who is a Vietnam veteran. We frequently visit the VA Medical Center in Atlanta. I was expecting a crowded, dirty, scary place full of overworked, unfriendly, unhelpful, uncaring staff. Wrong. The Center has cleaned up its act and is a terrific place to visit. The floors shine. The walls are freshly painted. Staff walking in the hall often smile, nod, and stop to see if visitors need directions. The nurse practitioners are kind, attentive, responsive, reassuring, and wonderfully helpful.
