I bought the Bissell Powerforce Bagless Upright Vacuum Vacuum a few months ago at Walmart.  I can't believe this vacuum was less than $50.  I have 3 dogs and 3 cats and a rabbit and it shows. The amount of dirt, dust, and pet hair it picks up is amazing!  I have to empty the container EVERY time I vacuum a single room.  It even works pretty well on my tile floors although it is not advertised for non-carpet areas.
