I nearly got stuck overnight at the Oakland Airport because the rental car desks close at midnight.  I arrived at 12:05 am and waited 45 min for a shuttle to the rental car center to show up.  In that time, I saw three flights arrive.  When the shuttle finally arrived, I noticed it was packed with travelers.  Even so, all the rental car companies, save Hertz and Avis, were closed.  The Avis agent (which was mine, fortunately) said that he was supposed to get out at midnight but had stayed due to a phone call from a customer.
