We bought our LG dishwasher after reading Consumer Reports reviews.  Also, we had heard that Maytag's quality is not what it once was.  (We left a Maytag behind in our former home that was 7 years old.  It was noisy, but worked great.)  Our LG  (~$500) IS the quietest dishwasher I've ever heard in at any price point and the dishes, pots and pans do come out clean.  The two drawbacks--much of the load is still wet when the cycle finishes, even if I wait until the next morning to unload, so I'm stuck drying!  The silverware is never dry.  My other complaint applies to most dw on the market...
