A Tree Grows in Brooklyn has been one of my favorite books since I was about twelve years old. Its is the coming of age story of Francie, a young girl in Brooklyn in the 1920s. She, and her brother Neely, deal with poverty, the coming of WWI, the loss of their father, a new sister, and numerous other events.
I cannot tell you how much I love this book and the characters in it. I do not want to give too much away, but my favorite chapter by far describes how Francie and Neely "catch" a Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve to bring home to their family.
