I actually just began reading recently as a hobby when I quit smoking.  I needed something constructive to do with my hands. I was given "The Gift" to read and I found it to be a gift.  As most of Danielle Steele's books, it is quick reading and she pulls you right into her story within the first couple of pages. I have read a few of her books now and this one is by far the best one.   Her characters are so loving and perfect and you feel like you are in her stories and you become one of their friends or family members. You can never go wrong with one of her books, but THE GIFT is one...
