The Almond Picker

a slice of Sicilian life

The title is "The Almond Picker." This book creates a little world. Set in a small (fictional) town in Sicily during the 1960s, the story leads you through the streets and behind closed doors. You'll meet the members of the leading families of the town and their servants. You'll overhear tales about the previous generations, and you'll witness memorable scenes that inspire more gossip. The title character barely manages to survive the first few pages, but the rest of the book reveals her life, her character and the impact she had on those around her.
