With the market downturn, we decided to tighten our belts, pay off our small credit card debt and put more away in savings. So after a few months we paid off our Capital One credit card that I have had for over 20 years. My rate had been 7.9% for many, many years. Once I paid it off, Capital One jumped my rate to 14.9% (almost double). Well that made me mad. I called them concerning this abuse and they said in this market that was the going rate.
