I am a 58 year young grandfather of four (two boys & two girls). Oldest grandson is 15 and stands 6' 3" tall and weighs approximately 250 lbs. And the father of three lovely daughters. I'm retired because of health reasons (heart attack).
I spent six years in the U.S. Navy, and then earned a Bachelors degree in biology from Northern Arizona University before moving to Alaska in the spring of 1979. I've been here ever since.
I held down many different jobs here, never feeling as if I had found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life until I took the job of a wilderness guide. Then I found my calling. That was where I was meant to be.
When I first came to Alaska, everything was new, everything was fresh! After living here for a few years I couldn’t recapture that feeling even though I could still see the beauty of this great state. The newness was gone.
Then when I could share what I knew, what I had here in Alaska with each new party of tourists that came to our lodge, I regained that newness. Through their eyes, I could once again see Alaska as I did that first time!
So, that’s where I spent the rest of my adult life, on and around the waters of Katchemak Bay Alaska, which is near Homer on the southern Kenai Peninsula.
