We replaced our Maytag older top loader with a new expensive Maytag H.E. machine.   While it is quiet and uses less water, I am dismayed at how dingy the whites are.   I have tried everything, bleach, sanitary cycle, oxygenated products, Tide for H.E. machines and Cheer for H.E. machines.   The only marginal success is with much fewer items per load and shorter wash cycles.   My theory is that with less water, the dirt and detergent are forced into the fabric by the rolling action of the washer.   I will never purchase another H.E. machine.   It takes more time and water to process...
