My son has speech issues and lags behind his classmates in reading due to this.  A friend recommended that I try Kumon for at least six months to see if this will help any.  My four-year-old has been visiting Kumon twice a week for the past three weeks and actually enjoys going.  He does a 30 min session with the instructor and has homework.  He is excited to learn and I'm so happy.  I am and avid reader, LOVE IT, and it broke my heart when he wasn't interested.  It was soon discovered that he was not interested because it was hard for him.  Now that the 'difficulties' have been addressed...
