Finally all the shopping is done, tree is up (and decorated!), and gifts wrapped and under the tree! Countdown until Christmas! I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful holiday season!
The last of our snow melted yesterday and we have a high of 70 today! The weather is CRAZY! Looks like countdown to Christmas. My goal this week is to get the shopping done..haha. Yes, you heard me right! I've only put a small dent in the Christmas shopping so far so this will be a very busy week! The tree is up (artificial) and hopefully we will get it decorated tonight. I have to make a trip to the other house and get back in the attic. The new lights are missing and the tree skirt.
So please tell me I am not the only one that is still shopping!!??
Winter storm brings SNOW to Louisiana! We ended up with a day off work today due to snow, sleet and hail most of the day today. I posted a picture of the scene out my window today. We planned on going to work today and headed that way. I decided that I would stay at my mother in laws after the drive in from Mississippi. Too many wrecks! We still have a couple of inches on the ground here and a hard freeze tonight. Brrrrr!
Another cold front is coming our way. Lows back in the upper 20's...yuck! Hope everyone is staying warm! Have you put a nice dent in your holiday shopping? I haven't even started!! Yikes!
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! We have lots of rain here and the satellite has been down. I have lots of catching up to do!
It's raining here today, in fact pouring. We have 40% or more rain in forcast for the rest of the week---BLAH!!! Otherwise enjoying the cool temperature and the deer that have been popping out of the woods to graze along the highways here.
Update on Toby--looks like the owner of the dog found him. He has only been back once during the day while we were at work and not once over the weekend. I hope that is the case anyway and he is being cared for.
It's pretty much official now--looks like we have a new dog. Hubby has finally given in and decided that the dog has been dropped off. He is now being fed (very well) and staking his claims. I'll put up a picture or two soon! I named him Toby and he has already learned to sit and stay :)
Fall colors are starting to surround us. The leaves are changing colors and there are beautiful shades of reds, orange and yellows on the trees. I've been enjoying the ride into work this week seeing the trees up and down the hills along the highway. It's so beautiful!
BOOOO! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
I've been selling my birds to cut down on animals. Now we have a second cat show up and homesteading at the old house. And guess what? A black lab puppy has been at the new house for two days now. He's cute but destructive. He has drug out styrofoam insulated boards from under the house and had a chewiing party. We have chunks of styrofoam all over the yard now! Hoping we find his owner soon!!
Rain is back in the forecast for the rest of the week--UUUGGG! It better clear out before the weekend!! After the rain we are promised a cool front with lows in the 50's--woohoo!
I just got my first Mississippi Bulletin in the mail. It's like a Farmer's newspaper that is put out monthly. It had a great feature on recipes for sweet potatoes. I think I will try the sweet potato cheese ball for the holidays. I'll let you all know how it comes out!
Yay! It's hump day and a beautiful day here in the south! The sun is shining and we have a high of 78 forcasted.
How do you like the new profile pages? I think they will take some getting used to myself and I'm still exploring.
Have an awesome day!!
We have been blessed with two weeks of gorgeous weather here. I wish it would stay like this all year. We have rain back in the forcast this week so maybe a cool front with it? We will see!
We saw our first resident Doe this weekend at the new (old) house in Mississippi. I always go sit out on the porch to drink my coffee in the morning and thought it was too late for the deer to be grazing, but a Doe came up and nibbled on a patch of mushrooms at the edge of the woods. I had no clue they would eat mushrooms. We will be putting some corn and salt blocks out soon! I've got to get the 35 mm camera with the zoom lens fixed!
Woohoo! We are actually having some cooler temperatures here. We may even have a real Fall this year!
Is it FRIDAY yet???
Man, this has been one long week! I am so looking forward to the weekend! Hope you are all enjoying the nice and cool weather. Looks like summer is on the way out....finally!
Two Weeks After Gustav--
We still have areas in the city without electricity and traffic lights out. I'll be so glad when things get back to normal---traffic is bad enough on *normal* days!
One Week After Gustav--
I am back at work--yay! That means I don't have to pick up more limbs and work in the yard. lol We had the top of a big oak tree come down at house in LA--missed the house thank goodness :) (prayers do work--and I thank you all for keeping us in your prayers as this storm was a very bad one. It hit Baton Rouge harder than Betsy or Katrina. We still have about a 40% power outage in the city. Now we have another one out there headed this way--Ike. Keep us (and south east Texas --The Carey's) in your prayers!
Just a quick update. We were lucky, no major damage. However, the city, surrounding area was left without power which has led to a gasoline shortage with lines that take hours to get through. Food is also slow to hit the grocery stores and disappers quickly. This storm makes Katrina look like a kitten. We have power back on at our house but have been running generator and travel trailer from family member to family member. Now we are facing flooding from the local rivers which will be moderate and cause street closures.
And there is this guy called IKE out there that has me cringing. Will be here more as soon as I can!
Happy Labor Day everyone! Just a quick update here while we still have electricity. The power is starting to go out in the City (Baton Rouge) and I imagine we will lose power later today. We live right outside BR and usually have a couple more hours before we lose power. Lots of wind and rain with a lot more to come!
Getting ready for Gustav! Here we go again!
I'm enjoying reading all the new users' reviews and profile pages. Scribbles is a fun tool that allows you to write up a short bio, let us know what is going on in your life or whatever you want to tell us! Don't forget to fill these out, it is a great way for other members to get to know you!
