After several years of paying different co-pays for this medication for the last 5 years, it's finally going "over the counter"! Is that a good thing or a bad thing?? I'll bet it will be just like when Claritin went over the counter. Expensive at first, and then gradually getting cheaper. This is a drug that I certainly can't live without, or if I did, my life would be filled with sinus infections and more hay fever, allergies, and asthma than I already have.
I have come to depend on this drug, and when I went to have it filled the other day, I was told that if I filled it now, it would cost more than usual, because the insurance companies were putting a premium on it, since it was supposed to have "already come from out of the prescription label." There is a backlog on it, so it's supposed to come out now about the 24th, which is waiting a little too long for me and my sinuses, so I bought 10 pills, because that turned out to be cheaper than getting the entire 30 days worth.
I always "test drive" any drugs I'm on long-term, by getting off of it for 30 days (albeit gradually and with my doctor's permission), to make sure it still does something for me, and with Zyrtec, it absolutely helps me keep the number of allergy attacks, asthma attacks, and sinus infections down if you're an allergy sufferer, whether it be because of seasonal allergies or because of our little furry friends,
I would recommend this drug to anyone, as it really has worked for me. If you suffer from allergies, and am not getting relief from whatever you're taking and you've not taken Zyrec, I would recomment that you try it.
Whether you get it with the added "D" benefits of the decongestant, or just the regular histimine blocker, it is a drug worth trying. For those of you who are used to paying a $15 co-pay, you'll now be speding more than that, but just remember.. that the price will go down, just like it does with all "new" over the counter medications... and it is a mediation worth it's weight in gold when you don't have it!
I give this drug a thumbs up, and it will be nice to not have to get a prescription every 3 months, paying for a doctor's visit 4 times a year, just to get this medication.
