my husband was one of the ones who got diabetes

1

My husband had taken zyprexa for a while several years ago for problems he was having with depression/anxiety, etc.  It seemed to have helped improve his condition but not enough and he was later changed to another medication.  Now, a few years later, he has diabetes that is not well controlled and since then has developed heart disease.

Huge Weight Gain, Swollen ankles & feet

1

I started Zyprexa (1/2 tablet of 2.5 mg.) 1 week ago for anxiety.  This is a very low dosage.  It had the opposite effect on me - instead of calming me before bedtime, I was dancing around cleaning the house until 4:30 a.m. & had to get up at 7 a.m. for work.  I gained an enormous amount of weight instantly - 15 pounds in 7 days.  The 6th day I noticed my feet & ankles were swollen.  The 7th day I was in PAIN from my ankles, feet & legs "blowing up".  I also had shortness of breath.  It took me 48 hrs to figure out this med was the cause.  Went off drug immediately & in 2 days lost 5 lbs.  The rest of the weight and swelling is decreasing, though not gone yet. I'm back on Klonopin, which wasn't a problem for me to begin with.  My Dr. just wanted me to try Lyprexa.  UGH!

NEVER allow your doctor to prescribe you this!

I am having a hard time understanding why doctors are prescribing this medication still, even after it was recalled?!?! Just so everyone knows what its done to someone I love... She was prescribed this medicine a few years ago,and it has been nothing but horrible to her health and well being. Aside from becoming diabetic after taking this she has gained about 100 pounds. Love how greedy the drug administration is. Took practically her whole life just for a prescription sale. Crazy world we live in,I,for one, definately dont trust doctors anymore. I won't pick up any prescriptions that they try to shove down my thoat. Its definately all about the money to these people, and there is almost always a natural/healthy option to get "well" Soo On a hopeful note i would suggest everyone pick up a copy of natural cures..by Kevin Trudeau. It will expose alot of truuths that you had no idea about. Protect your own health people.

Zyprexa is intolerable

1

I knew about Zyprexa before ever taking it in particular the weight gain issue so when my doctor put me on it I was looking for an out.  The out came in the form of fluid retention, which I immediately noticed because I didn't go to the bathroom all day.  The next time I was hospitalized my doctor put me on Zyprexa and Chlorpromazine or Thorazine.  I stayed on it for over a month and gained about 15 pounds.  It took a month to fully get rid of the voices I was hearing and the delusions I was suffering from that time.  I've heard of patients gaining 50 pounds on this medication and even some who develop type 2 diabetes.  This was a major concern for me especially because I already have a genetic predisposition to develop type 2 diabetes.  I think this drug also made me very constipated and I had to take stool softeners in addition.  The next time I was hospitalized I thought that the drug they were giving me (Zyprexa in quick dissolve form) was actually a sedative because every time I took it I would almost immediately fall asleep.  I also started gaining 1 or 2 pounds every couple of days.  I refused to take it anymore after that because I did not want to balloon up again.  Unfortunately, this probably meant that my hospitalization was for a longer period of time (close to 2 months) because Zyprexa in addition to two other antipsychotics (Geodon and Thorazine) would probably have stopped the psychotic break sooner.  I have schizoaffective disorder by the way.

Either doesn't help, or I eat too much.

I have taken Zyprexa for a few years and have experimented with different mg, due to the fact that it doesn't work too well, with taking Adderall for ADHD. When I take it, I either don't eat enough, or I eat too much. I am not really satisfied with this medicine.

Pretty crazy in the head. Slowly getting better

Initially I was a bit troubled that my family doctor wanted to put me on this to help me deal with anxiety and depression issues. I gave it a try and in a very short time it made life much more enjoyable  with much less useless thoughts, stresses, and strains going through my head.  I was  on it for about a month and the effects were faily good but the weight gain could not be tolerated.  I was switched to Symbyax with had similair results and am now on meds completely different. Great for controlling Bipolar Disorder.  Bad for weight issues.

Very effective modern Drug.

Very effective , Modern Anti-depressant. **Never, ever** stop taking a medication like this without talking to your doctor.  They must be weaned off slowly!  When you are feeling better you are not supposed to stop taking them!  You must continue to allow your brain to adjust. At least a year!

*I am currently taking Zyprexa Zydis and it works for me.  I have no side effects from taking it.  You place it under your tounge and it dissolves away.  No pills to take which makes it allot more convient to take.  When I don't take it I notice it right away. I get upset very easily and become irratable.  This has been a success after trying so many other medications before this one.*
