Zyliss Ice Cream Scoop Review

One of Zyliss ice cream scoops made it into the house as a gift from my mom. She bought one for herself, and then one each for my brother and myself. The reason being that she felt it had a really great design, and that mixed with the unique color schemes and unique scooping ability made it quite a nice present. Of the many colors that they sell this scoop, ours has a sky blue colored handle that goes good with the silver color to the scoop itself.

Now what makes this scoop a little (or a lot) different from most other ice cream scoops, is how the scoop itself is shaped. They created this as a way to really get a great rolling scoop of ice cream out of a pint or cartoon, and as you can see from the picture it really is best described as being unique in design. Typically I have used scoops that are rounded up the edges to about 50% of the circle leaving a big area for the ice cream to gather. This scoop probably comes up about 33% combined on the two sides, with a curvature to the front part and a "wall" at the base of the handle.

Popping it into the ice cream, the scoop almost seems to have a mind of its own, because it forms the perfect scoop of ice cream. When the ice cream is at a nice temperature, it rolls right on to the end of the scoop, and forms the perfect "ball" of ice cream that is ready to serve. I think the build of the scoop also makes it great for putting together scoops that will sit on top of ice cream cones perfectly. The scoop part of it is made of metal that doesn't stick to the ice cream when you serve it up to your bowl or dish, and the small remnants that remain on the scoop are easily cleaned off with some warm water. By doing that, you can save it going through a trip in the dishwasher, because it simply so easy to clean by hand. The handle of the scoop is plastic, and though I have liked rubbery grips better in the past, I don't seem to mind when it comes to this scoop.

I think that Zyliss really got it right when it came to this product, as it almost seems like a retro ice cream scoop that you would see in a 1950's diner serving up malts and milkshakes. The color also makes it fun to use, and helps it to stand out more in the ever-growing drawer of cooking utensils. On the end of the handle is also a hole that you can use to hang it in your kitchen if that is something you like to do. As for using this scoop, it is simply a joy, and I really haven't come across anything that I find to be negative about the product. Because of the design (as seen in the picture) it is an easy to handle scoop that does all of the work for you when it comes to serving up the ice cream. It cleans up well, isn't too heavy when it comes to weight, and is really just a joy to use. This Zyliss Ice Cream Scoop is obviously a highly recommended product by me, that I intend to use for many years to come!

An excellent ice cream scoop, I find this one both attractive in the kitchen, and easy to use no matter how you want to serve your ice cream.
