bought based on reviews, glad I did

I bought this based on all the reviews. The only complaint anyone made was about price so I figured I'd go for it. This is my first experience using a rice cooker and I wish I'd gotten one years ago! I just made my first batch of rice - with ground beef, boullion, garlic and ginger. After cooking the rice, I combined it with veggies to make fried rice and it is delicious! No hassle with watching it, adjusting the temp, making sure it doesn't burn, boil over, etc. The rice is perfectly done, not sticky or gooey and of course, not burned. I also got the Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook to go with it because I love all kinds of Asian food and there is a huge variety of recipes with all types of rice. I especially like "congee," aka porridge, the ultimate comfort food soup made with rice and other ingredients. I look forward to making that during the winter or to help myself feel better if I get a cold. I'm also looking forward to trying GABA (germinated) brown rice. Certainly, this is an expensive machine but if you eat a lot of rice and want it done perfectly in a machine that will last, this is a good one to get.

This is the first high end rice cooker I purchased and it would say it is worth every penny you spent. We cook the rice 4 times a week, and have been using 3 rice cookers in the last 6 years. From aroma to sanyo to tiger and now to **Zojirushi, **and this is the best one I have ever used. It uses the high tech such as induction heating, fuzzy logic etc, to make the rice cook to a new level. Alough it take 50 minutes to get rice ready, this is why we get such good rice. I even tried to cook the brown rice, and it tastes way better than that I got from my old Aroma rice cooker. Some times I leave the rice in the cooker for a couple of days, but rice Zojirushi is still fresh and good even after 48 hours. I share the rice with my friend, and every say it's excellent. The only thing bad I want to say is it's very pricy. You can buy a normal cooker by only spend 1/5 of the price you spend on Zojirushi, but I would say you should spend that much money if you eat rice every day. This is the best investment you can make in your life. Highly recommended.

We had a cheap rice cooker for many years, and used it often without any real complaints.  It did what it needed to do for us.  Ah, but the Zojirushi... This baby does so much more.  I absolutely love the porridge setting.  We steel cut our own oat groats and mix them according to the recipe on the Zojirushi website.  Intense flavor and creaminess you simply can't get cooking on top of the stove.  Give yourself plenty of time for breakfast though. It takes a full hour to properly cook the porridge.  It couldn't be simpler through, and it plays a cute little tune when it's ready for you to eat.  So far all the different rices I've cooked in this machine have come out perfect.  It has different settings for each type of rice, so you have to make sure you set it right, and use the cup it comes with to properly measure the ingredients for best results.  This model also has a setting for GABA rice, if that's something you're interested in.  As far as clean up goes it has a detachable and washable inner lid, as well as a removable bowl.  Very quick and easy to clean.  Yes, it does cost a lot, but you won't regret stepping up to this level of quality and performance.
