I have seen commercials and coupons for the Ziploc Vacuum Starter Kit, but as my parents have an electric sealer I thought there was no way this could compare, and never made the purchase. Recently, thanks to Home Made Simple, I was one of the lucky people to get one of the Ziploc Vacuum Starter Kit as a free sample, with extra coupons for other cleaning supplies and bags.
The Ziploc Vacuum Starter Kit is priced at $3.99 and includes three bags and one vacuum pump. Additional bags in a variety of sizes and for a variety of prices are available.
You start with the typical Ziploc brand double zipper. After placing your food into the bag, you are instructed to close the double zipper starting at one end and ending at the other. You then place the bag on the counter and use the pump to remove all the air from the bag. This is done by placing the pump over a circle on that bag. A few quick, smooth easy pumps and your work is done, a night tight seal around your food and it is ready for the fridge, freezer or pantry.
My Viewpoint: The Ziploc Vacuum Starter Kit could not have been easier! WOW, what a difference $4.00 could make. I was able to store bulk foods like meats in the freezer, cheese in the refrigerator, and using small bags store snacks for the kids that are quick and easy to grab from the pantry -- providing "portion control" as well as helping us get out and about or pack lunches. To be honest, even after how easy it was to use, I was still pretty surprised when I took the bags out of the freezer to find that my hamburger and pork chops were still fresh and freezer burn free.
