The PurPower Resistance Cord was an impulse buy. If you have a Marshall's near you then you'll know the bargains offered. The $11.99 Cord was $5.99 so I grabbed it. I've used Resistance Cords or Bands as I call them for years. If you haven't it is a great piece to either add to your routine just use it to work your whole body. Don't worry because it comes with a piece of paper that show you a few exercises to do. You can see the PurPower Cord here: www.jr.com/zenzation-athletics/pe/ZNZ_WTE10128/.

The PurPower Resistance Cord

  • is made of latex so stay away if you are allergic to latex.
  • is purple which is a medium strength. Other name brands such as Spri makes it much easier to know what the strength is of the Tube/Cord/Band. There was no indication on the package but I figured if it was too easy I could just make this 5' Cord small by wrapping it around my wrists. This makes it shorter and thus harder.
  • is portable and a super prop to take with you on your travels. Unless you are a body builder you have a gym!

Information on using The PurPower Resistance Cord

In general medium tubes are considered for average men or women. You will find, for example, other colors in other bands that are for seniors or children. If you use this correctly you should feel as if you are using about 10 pounds of weights. The purple is too light for me. So if you can curl a 20 pound dumbbell definitely don't go with this color. This is great for the beginner. As I said there was no indication on the package!

I find that The PurPower Resistance Cord is really effective and simulate dumbbells fairly well. I own a variety of dumbbells but use the Cord to add variety to my workouts.

I like the handles. My hands fit well in them and since they are padded they are comfortable to hold - no gloves necessary.

Whenever you use the The PurPower Resistance Cord check to make sure there are no worn spots. If it snaps and breaks you could get hurt. It is well made so I don't expect any holes any time soon.

What kind of exercises can you do?

Please check with your doctor before you start any exercise program.

This is for your chest area. Stand in the middle of the tube and hold a handle in each hand. Bring them up to chest level and cross your hands. With your shoulders down lift the handles up toward your chin and then back down again. If done properly you will feel these. If you feel them in your neck you aren't doing them correctly. Although the position of this is much different, it feels to me very much like a cable crossover that you might do on a pulley so you could substitute what I just explained if you were traveling or if you work out at home.

For your triceps (The back of your upper arm) step with one foot in the middle of the tube. Hold the handles next to your waist with your hands facing up. From that position bring your arms (just from your hand to your elbow) straight back. You are now doing what is called a kickback in dumbbell terms.

For your biceps (The front of your arm) stand on the tube and hold a handle in each arm. Keeping your elbows close to your sides bring the bands up either one hand at a time or both at the same time and squeeze your biceps as you get to the top.

Jo's Viewpoint

I am rating The PurPower Resistance Cord as average. Although I paid a great price you should be able to find similar for less than $12.00. Still if you happen to see one at a low price grab it.

I got a set of three a few years back at a rock bottom price. Then you really are not too worried at how long it lasts.

I love my Gold's Gyms resistance bands but have a few injuries while using them. Some of the workout routines in the booklet aren't as easy to perform as they look. The band snaps back and bam!! Hits me upside the face! Yeah, last fall I had a pretty shiner for about a week after the thing flew off a doorknob and ka powee! Glad you're enjoying yours too! BE SAFE :+)
