Zatarain's New Orleans Style Jambalaya Mix Review Summary
Home cooks give the thumbs up to Zatarain's Jambalaya mix. Based out of New Orleans, Zatarain's is known for flavorful boxed mixes that actually taste homemade. The jambalaya is one of the best according to consumers. Just heat up some water. Add the rice mix with seasonings plus your choice of meat - chicken, sausage or seafood. You can even add beans if you're watching fat and cholesterol. In less than half an hour, you have a complete dinner that has enough zip to please the palate. Good cooking does not get much easier than Zatarain's say reviewers.

keep quick fix dishes on hand, picky on my mixes, spicy
Zatarain's is one of my kitchen secrets. When I'm pushed for time and need to take something to a pot luck dinner, then I pull out a box and whip up homemade in a little more than twenty-five minutes. I also make Zatarain's for an easy dinner fairly often. In fact, that's what I have planned tonight. I'm not sure when my son will get home from lifeguarding, so I'll just turn on the water when I see him pull in. — I'd say that the Jambalaya mix is probably my favorite though I like all the Zatarain's rice boxes. It has a really pleasant blend of seasonings. It's spicy but not overly…

Zatarains is a easy way to go for a hot meal! This item is easy to prepare and serves plenty at my house. I have 5 girls and they all love the stuff. This product can be a little spicy but not to bad. I often add chicken chunks, sausage, or hamburger to calm the spice. Great to eat with a side dish of corn or corn on the cob. I highly…

I love Zatarain's because it is a quick and inexpensive meal that my family loves. All I have to do is add chicken, shrimp or sausage. My husband and I enjoy spicy foods and this has the right amount of spices. It probably isn't exactly what an authentic jambalaya dish tastes like, but I'm sure it's a close second. Their other dishes are great,…

flavorful, budget conscious, practical, impressed with this product
I found that the cost was much less in price in comparison to other rice dishes. While I think it's doesn't advertise the same way in my neighborhood that it may in other areas, it packs alot of popularity at my market. The downer is that it runs out fast, and not all stores carry this. — — While I did not taste as much salt in this brand as I have in others, it does exist. However, itis much lower in sodium count by comparison, which is a plus in the health factor. It also great in the "flavor" factor, since a lot was added, which makes the…

I only gave this 4 out of 5 stars due to the large amount of salt in the mix; I haven't tried the reduced-sodium mix yet but am eager to do so. I've used this mix numerous times without any problems, using a can of shrimp for seafood as well as a pound of andouille sausage for more authenticity and spice. I like hot food, but not any that is HOT; this is perfect when I'm looking for that flavor to remind me of New Orleans. The optional red pepper packet has always been reserved for my fiance's overly spicy taste, yet he has yet to add it to this particular dish. Very…

I love good Jambalaya, and I love time saving items. This is both. I love the flavors of this Jambalaya, and it is versatile. I have added shrimp, ham or even chicken depending on my mood. The last time I made if for friends, they commented on how much they liked it, but didn't like the thought of spending all day in the kitchen. Hmmmm, I wondered if I should tell them. They know I don't usually use boxed items for my cooking. — I loved the fact that I can have a dish like this and stay within my budget. —…

keep quick fix dishes on hand, spicy, flavorful
My wife makes this for me without the added oil or margarine, and usually puts in 1/2 pound of cooked, crumbled, and well-drained spicy sausage such as Hot Emge. Sometimes she will throw in some frozen shrimp instead which we often have on hand for quick things. I particularly like it will the spicy sausage, but it is higher in fat that way, while the shrimp is lower in fat, and high in cholesterol. It can be made healthier by just eating the rice, or adding beans or chicken breast. It satisfies my yen for something spicy without being horrible for…

I LOVE Zatarains! I have five kids, two who are very picky eaters and I can make a meal around Zatarains that everyone enjoys. — There are so many ways to make a Zatarains meal! With their new lower sodium line, it's healthy too. My favorite and quickest meal is to add a few boneless skinless chicken breasts to the mix before you put the lid on to simmer. All those spices poach right into the chicken! I can set that up and head off to work knowing my kids will have a nutricious meal with no bikering over who won't eat which ingredients! —…

This is not my grandmothers 6 hour Jambalaya but, in 30 minutes or less it can stir some pretty terrific memories. The spice blend (onion, bell pepper, garlic, etc.) is really good without an overbearance of pepper. The key to your perfect jambalaya is to add the meats of your choice. Don't be afraid to adventure beyond chicken, sausage and shrimp. Try for example, left over roast or pork chops. Zatarains is a New Orleans original, as am I. If the product didn't suit native New Orleanians, we would never recommend or serve it. Bon…

keep quick fix dishes on hand
I really like this product. It isn't something we eat every day, or even every week, but for something different when I get in a rut, it's great. I don't like all their varieties, but we do like this one. I don't know how we even came to try it one day, just looking for something different in the store. We were pleasantly surprised. My husband thinks that it is a little spicy, which is unusual because he can tolerate spicy food better than I can. I would recommend this product. I'd even consider taking it for a pot luck…

i like this dish i fix it for my family and myself as often as twice or more a week. We also like to try different flavors, like putting chicken in it or hot polish. I also enjoy the fact that it is very flavable it never leaves you wondering if you didn't season it enough. it makes you want more even if you aren't hungry anymore. My daughter is a very picky eater and this is one thing that i can cook for her that she gets all the nutrients needed. My husband refuses to eat vegetables but he will eat them if they are in this meal. —…

My family loves this jambalaya mix and we will never use another. We have traveled to new orleans many times and we think this tastes just as good. I make it with leftover smoked sausage and chicken and it turns out great every time. It is a simple to cook and takes no time to make. The spiceness is just right for my family but we love hot stuff. This is one of the few things my family can agree on to have for…

This is a product i just tried for a quick and easy superbowl get together. First time i made it i used sausage, since then i have tried it with shrimp and chicken. Either way it's a delicious meal and a weekend staple around my house. It's easy to make as a matter of fact if you can boil water and read directions your all set. The flavor is just right for my family not to spicy but spicy enough. I recommend you give a try you will be suprised.…

Zatarain's Jambalaya is the best I've come across if you're not making it from scratch or getting it from New Orleans itself. I like to add Conecuh Sausage to mine and the flavor is wonderful. My whole family will eat it including my children. It may not be as quick as some would like if you're wanting a quick meal but it's low maintenance. Only takes about thirty minutes. I love it. —…
