Nothing Yet, mind you I have owned it 9 days, but it seems like it will last me a long time yet!
Oh wait, the driver's side rear window doesn't roll down, its 12 years old, big deal.
General comments?
I bought this car after I had sold my 1995 Buick Roadmaster (I wrote a review on this site, look up the 1995 buick roadmaster, its the one that says "The Perfect Sleeper") The Roadmaster and the deVille are both large american luxo liners. but the Caddy is smaller, but it has 5 inches more rear legroom than the Roadmaster, it rides more like a cloud, yet it handles better.
The 4.9 Liter V8 is a wonderful motor, powerful, reasonably efficent, reliable and it sounds really cool. It's got a sound that's like a '60's big block muscle car except it's hushed quite a bit. The road tests Car and Driver did back in the May 1991 issue state that the car goes 0-60 in 8.4 and the 1/4 mile in 16.5. These cars were the most powerful american luxury cars in 1991-92 then the northstar came out in 1993 and the 4.9 was second. Anyways, these cars have more than enough power, most of the power is low end . The low end torque is reminicent of the 350LT1, just the 4.9 doesn't have the top en power that the LT1 had. It does good burnouts too :)!! But under full throttle at lower speeds, it does show a bit of torque steer, but it's nothing really bad.
The interior is really nice also, it's a very simple dashboard with a 85MPH horizontal speedometer, the dashboard is extremely horizontal, simple, but not basic. The speedometer is the only typical gauge on the cluster. the fuel gauge is a digital display that says the # of gallons left, (which is good because the gauge in the roadmaster was miscalculated-- it would go way past F when full) all the other info that you would need guages for is an idiot light) my favorite feature is the Fuel Data Center, which tells you AVG, INST MPG, Range, Fuel Used, and your oil life indicator-- like 68% left. The Electonic Climate Control is a great feature also, still works great, but you can't push a button to tell it where to put the air (dash, floor, mix etc) I just leave it in auto or econ all the time. It's got defrog front and rear too, the outside mirrors are heated when you push rear defog. The Radio sounds great with it's 5 way equalizer, but it's only a cassette so that will be coming out.
Also, the dashboard and door panels aren't built of the typical hard plastic like every other GM brand. They're built of this flexible and soft vinyl like material. You can really tell which brand GM puts all of they're development money into in 1992.
And if you hold down the OFF and WARMER buttons on the Electronic Climate Control, it will go into diagnostic mode, which gives you vital info like RPM, Digital Speed, Battery Volts, among many others, use the lower and higher fan speed buttons to access this info. It's very genious also.
The seats are very comfortable, they're the kind of seats you just sink into when you get in the car and seeing as how they're velour, they're never very cold, just when it's below 10 degrees, the seats are firm before the car warms up inside. There is a opening armrest with cupholders in the front, but no opening armrest/ cupholders in the rear. The front seats are 6 way with manual recliners. There is a opening compartment on the rear shelf infront of the upper brake light, very ingenious, and on the roof of the car, in the very center, in the back are two red lights that turn on when your signal is on, or when your brake lights are on or when your tail lights are on, they have indicator lights for the headlights, turn signals, and high beams on the front fenders. Very clever!!
The exterior is very conservativly designed. It's a very clean design, with just the right amount of chrome, it looks quite contemporary and not so gaudy like older caddys, overall, I have to say this is my favorite design for any Cadillac, ever. I like how it doesn't look as big as any of the DeVilles made after 1993.
Most kids at school never understand why I would want a Cadillac, but I tell them They're the best american car period and one of the best in the world with AUDI, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, They used to be, and hopefully will be soon again the car everyone dreams to own. Cadillac is a symbol of class and style, not to mention it's durable, and very well designed, do yourself a favor and get one soon. My only real complaints are that it needs 91 Octane, and that the gas tank is too small for a V8 (18 gallons, my roadmaster had 23, this car should have a 20 gallon tank).
Now that I own one, I can truly understand what all the hubbub is about, Cadillacs are the standard of the world. tis is a realliy good car i love cadillac devile its a good car has a good engine i cant complain about this car so get one. K miles. We had a 1988 Chrysler Fifth Ave. and it was a piece of garbage. I had planned on buying her a diamond for Christmas, but I figured the 5 grand that I had saved for the ring was better spent on her other dream. We have driven this car across the country twice and it rides great, we have gotten 30-32 mpg. on highway trips and 18-20 around town. The car rides like a that. Ours is the Touring Sedan and it handles better than the standard Cadillac Deville and the higher trim lines. The only think I don't like is that the steering can be a little too light in city driving. Overall though, this is by far the best Cadillac I have ever driven. This thing even does well in the snow, just about as well as our 1991 explorer eddie bauer. The interior is well equipped and the wood trim is a nice touch. Ours has blue leather and it hasn't cracked or ripped at all. The seats are like big, over stuffed chairs. The Bose cassette deck sounds great, but the recent pioneer cd player takes that up one step farther. The a-c works well and cools the interior quickly and the auto temp control works well. Overall, we are pleased with this car and we are now thinking of selling this good old machine to our neighbor and buying a 2003 Seville, but nothing will replace this car. The problems we have had are nothing out of line for any car, and we don't take it to the dealer, so it never has cost more to fix than any other car. This car rates 4 out of 5 in my book.
