You Tube —

Youtube.com has provided me with so many wonderful musical moments. I've seen the movie Hairspray(can't wait for the DVD) and even clips from the broadway play, videos of my favorite singers from the 50's and 60's, and Judge Judy sending litigants down the country. I always wonder about the copyright issues after reading articles about people complaining their work was put on youtube without their permission. Often, certain videos, such as the Hairspray movie and broadway play, are taken down. I always imagine the copyright police tracking me down and arresting me for illegally watching. Although I respect people's copyright, youtube is a great promotional device. I would never consider buying the Hairspray DVD if I hadn't had a taste on youtube.

Whatever the legalities, youtube provides me with lots of pleasure and has about everything I can think of. I don't really get much out of amateur videos even though I have heard some great singers that way. The comments are almost as fun as viewing the videos even though the comments, as they often are online, can be unhelpful. I have a basic DSL connection(in other words, the cheapest level), and the videos always run smoothly. Being hearing-impaired, I think the volume could be better on some videos, but my earphones are good enough. As if the Internet wasn't addicting enough, youtube hooks me even more.

Although it seems illegal, I wouldn't even imagine having the police arresting 39 millions people globally for watching a song. So I would say technically the people who hold the copyright is their responsibility to ask the YouTube to remove and ban whoever upload the copyrighted materials. I doubt you'll be arrested for watching a video among a millions viewers.

I agree. The volume can be low. I also have hearing issues and often it sounds muffled when I turn up the volume. You can't get in trouble for watching. The only ones who will are those who post copyright stuff. As long as you don't download anything from YouTube, you're safe, I was told buy a practicing attorney (A friend. I didn't go to a lawyer about YouTube, lol.)
