You Tube —

To the Point

My son-in-law introduced me to the world of YouTube. His first e-mail regarding this site was of a video of adorable Pomeranians. I refuse to get hooked by this site; however, it is easy to and it is definitely fun.

A Closer View

Put simply YouTube is a website that allows me to watch videos; share my favorites with others; connect with people who have similar interest as I do and upload my own videos. This may sound like the epitome of narcissism but many wonder why in the world I would want to share myself via my blog. Most of us reading this understand.

These are your recently watched videos. We respect your privacy, and do not share this information with anyone. You can clear your history by clicking the 'Clear Viewing History' link at bottom.

The site has an area of quick lists that lets me make a list of videos I want to watch another time. It has a whole page on safety information regarding privacy issues and tells the audience that YouTube is not for people under 13

The categories are cars, comedy, entertainment, film, style, music, news and politics, people and blogs, pets and animals, sports and travel and events.

It's very easy to sign up. Once you register you'll get an e-mail with a lot of information but it is easy to understand information. The site is not hard to navigate.

So there I was at my daughter and son-in-law's over Thanksgiving and he had to show me some things on YouTube. I tried to put if off as long as possible. He had already convinced my husband to watch a video or two. At about midnight when everyone was going to sleep I told Rob that I'd watch what he wanted me to see. The rest is history as we both got lost in the world of YouTube. Some of the most interesting videos I watched included a young Arnold Schwarzenegger - well actually there were more than one or two - I was enthralled. Then it came time to see Ronnie Goldman who leg presses 2300 pounds. By now I was lost in the world of weight training but he wanted me to see the 11-year old yodeler and then the original yodeler of the song she sang/yodeled. I watched a competition of young people stacking plastic cups - fast- as in a competition and some other strange and not so strange but interesting videos.

You'll see under the video how long it is and how long you've been watching so if a video is 35 minutes you might not want to get lost in it. There is a volume control button as well.

Jo's Viewpoint

I like it!

I am hooked on the "talking cat" videos on YouTube. So funny!

My nephew is in an amateur dance troupe. They put videos on YouTube and I can keep up with what he's doing.

Like Mark, I cannot even begin to count the number of hours that have flown by while watching videos on You Tube. Totally addicting.

I can't begin to count the number of nights I've lost because I was captivated by some stupid amateur video of a clay orange dinosaur dancing "The Macarena"...
