Pros

right on the beach, see lots of wildlife, GREAT food, Lovely Swimming Pool, private bungalows, friendly & helpful staff, on site yoga classes, Breakfast and Candlelit Dinner included, romantic and private, Free Wireless Internet in your room, beautiful location

Cons

pricier than other area hotels, no parking at hotel, no phones in rooms, no hot tub

The Ylang Ylang Beach Resort was my favorite place to stay during my recent 10 day trip to Costa Rica.

Ylang Ylang is a small resort located directly on beach in the small beach town of Montezuma. (which is located on the tip of the Nicoya Penninsula on the Pacific side) Ylang Ylang is very private. Its tucked away from all the other area hotels...surrounded by the forest, tropical flowers, and the beach. It's got all the amenities you'd want in a beach resort and is also very close to nature (monkeys, pizote, red squirrels, tropical birds and more animals can be seen on the grounds...we saw more wildlife at this resort than in the previous 7 days of our trip). It was a really unique combination of luxury and nature! Where else can you sip your complimentary drink outside your room while watching the sunset over the ocean and monkeys playing in the trees above you! So awesome.

The resort offers a variety of rooms, bungalows and cabins...something for everyone. The hotel rate includes dinner, 2 complimentary drinks at happy hour and breakfast. The food is amazing - better than any of the restaurants found in town...which are also very good! They have a huge menu and a full bar that serves the BEST Pina Coladas. At night the restaurant, which has outdoor seating overlooking the ocean, is lit by candles and tiki torches. Its really beautiful and romantic. (Had me wishing I'd brought my boyfriend on this trip!)

Often the beaches here are sparsely populated and sometimes even completely empty. The waves are perfect for boogie boarding or surfing. In the late afternoon, you often see the surfers out hitting the waves. The hotel rents boogy boards or surf boards if you want to give it a go...or take a lesson.

The staff at Ylang Ylang is very friendly, helpful and available all the time. They don't have phones in the rooms, however they offer free wireless internet in all rooms and use of the hotel computer at the reception area. They also have a phone there where you can make any calls.

I can't wait to go back next year!!!

Sounds like a great place to get away from things. It kind of defeats the whole purpose to go on vacation and have a tv, except maybe for a night time movie or something. But what's better to watch than that beautiful ocean right outside your door? Great review!

Thanks Vytas! It was a beautiful vacation...lots of adventures over in Costa Rica. Didn't do as much hiking as I wanted...I had an incident white water rafting on day 2 of the trip and banged up my knee extensively on a boulder. Ouch!!! I will definitely go back and do some more traveling there.
