Yelp might give one a general idea of whether or not their next taco will be mediocre or above average, but the difference between the two experiences is really not that life altering. I would NOT, however, rely on yelp to make a decision about a dentist or other important service. To gauge the reliability of yelp's reviews, I looked up two of the worst dentists I have ever had. Both are yelp sponsors/paid advertisers, and both have all 5 star reviews. Then I looked up my current dentist, who is far superior to either, and he has a 3 star average with what appears to be some bogus 1 star reviews. He is not a yelp sponsor. What a shame that somebody might actually rely on these reviews and choose a bogus 5 star loser dentist over a true professional who has been given a bogus 3 star rating. Don't trust yelp to make your life decisions for you. They are out for themselves, not your best interest.
