Yaz is expensive but the best option for my PMDD

I've had irregular periods since I was in middle school; I was told that it was totally natural. Accompanying these periods were cramps so bad I would curl up on the bathroom floor-- taking 3 or 4 Advil just to take the edge off. Throughout college my cramping got worse, and was accompanied by ridiculous mood swings, depression, and muscle aches. I was also gaining weight (though I had been and continued to be very active). I finally laid down all of my symptoms to my doctor when I was 21 and she promptly diagnosed me with PCOS and PMDD. She prescribed YAZ for both of these issues. I had never been on the birth control pill before.

The first month was hell. The week before, during, and after my first period on YAZ was torture; I had such intense pain that I would just sit in hot water to relieve the cramps, or lay in bed. My mood swings only seemed to get worse. I called my doctor-- she told me to give it one month.

The second month was as different as night and day: my mood swings were reduced so much I hardly noticed a change in my own behavior and mood, and the cramping completely gone. My symptoms with both PCOS and PMDD are now under control and though YAZ is more expensive than I would prefer, it does a good job.
