Incredibly reliable and light-weight

I was a bit apprehensive to buy a mower with chinese-made engine, but seeing as how my budget would not allow otherwise I went to my local hardware stores to shop around. I found the Yard Man mower at a reasonable price and after viewing the floor model decided that it met my needs for value and features. What I really like about this mower is the quick self-propelled motion that makes going up hills either (plus my wife actually enjoys using it when she occasionally mows the lawn). It is light enough that for flat lawn surfaces you don't need to use this feature but it helps for the inclines. It seems fairly efficient compared to the beater that I previously had and the engine has stayed clean after 1 & 1/2 seasons of use. The only problem that I had with it was the rear guard for objects that could be kicked back to the operator. It was so long that while moving in reverse the guard actually got chopped by the blade of the mower! My simple solution was to cut an inch or so off of the guard and I haven't had any problems with debris or damaged guard since.

I love Yard Man lawn mowers!

Yard Man is a great lawn mower to use! I have had my riding lawn mower for about 2 weeks now and it does wonders! It changes gears better then my other mowers in the past, and it doesn't hesitate when going up or down hills. I have never seen a better mower and I would recommend it to anyone! This is definitely the mower for me and my family!

great lawn mower for samll yards

I bought this Yardman MTD lawn mower at the beginning of the season, Great for small to medium size yards!Haven't had as much as a single problem, Runs great! You can use the rear bag or just mulch as you mow! Easy on gas too! I've only used 2 gallons of gas for the season. I've had different lawn mowers over the years but this one really fills the gap. It's not to heavy, the handle is just the right height as I am a height challenged person. You don't have the handle too high, it comes out at a nice angle. Its easy to start too! I've had other lawn mowers where I had a hard time pulling the ripcord to start. Not the Yardman MTD. It seems you guys did your homework on this lawnmower! This is the first time I had a good fit with buying something that I could use comfortably without having to have someone help me or pull my arm out trying to get it started. My hats off to you Yardman MTD! Keep up the great work!

Works decent, trading up to electric, though

this lawnmower has worked ok for us in the time we have had it.  It seems to use a lot of oik, which I'm not real proud of.  We live in NV, and we don't have a lot of grass to mow because we have mostly desert landscaping.  We use it throughtout the year, probably 45 weekends a year.  Storage is fairly easy, as it is not a huge space-taker.  It has always been easy to start, even when we haven't used in two to three weeks.  Always starts right up, and being a girl with pretty weak arms, that says a lot! We are considering moving up in the trade-in program offered by our state and getting an electric mower instead, just for the benefit of the envirnment.  We have not completely been sold, though, as it may take some getting used to to have a cord for a mower?!  Overall, I would recommend this item to tohers looking for a decent mower that works well for smaller areas of grass.  If you have a large yard, I'd probably go for soemthing a bit larger than this model, though.

this is not a bad mower for smaller jobs

4

the yard man self propelled twenty two inch mower is a good mower to get the smaller jobs done tha are more for lighter yard work  for yards in towns or small places like around trees and side walks, around tight paces like trees and shrubs  and good for mowing small side lawns where a bigger riding mower could'nt get or to be to big for the lawn or just simply not the right mower to get the job done plus it could also be the right size for a beginner .it can also be hauled in a vehicle that does not have the capacity to haul a big mower or riding mower ,your friends can borrow it for their lawn and use it for their in town lawn or small job around their house ,and for their small job side lawn or around gardens and around sidewalks. so ithink all in all this is a good mower to use for a small job sidewalk or around gardens and small structures that normally be to small for a bigger mower to do therefore this is a good machine all around

Yard Man is one of the best & most reliable mowers I have owned!

I lived in rural Wyoming, and purchased this mower new in 2003 (although I can't remember where) and was still using it until I moved to another state in 2007. Every spring, I would take it out of the garage, check the fluids, wires, plug, and blade, and crank it up. This mower started each and every time! No hassles at all. The bag is easy to attach and unattach, which makes emptying clippings a breeze. Considering that this mower had to endure long cold winters in the garage, it did very well in the spring. The only maintenance I had to do was keep the blade sharp and change the oil every spring. I think it helped that I use only synthetic oils in all of my vehicles and equipment, which seems to make them more efficient and last much longer before needing major repairs. It was even pretty effiecient with fuel use! My yard was approximately 2000 square feet, maybe bigger, and I could mow it at least 5 times on a tank of fuel. I would highly recommend this mower to anyone!!

My Lawn Mower is easy to use.

I bought a new lawn mower last year and it is lightweigt, easy to use and I enjoy it more than my last lawn mower which was hard to use and to heavy. I have had no problems with the mower and even after sitting all winter it started up with ease. While I don't have a large yard to mow, this mower seems to take most  of the work out of mowing. It has larger tires on the back with help when mowing the yard also.
