Yankee Peddler Inn - Newport, RI —

Bottom-Line: All and all, I would rate my stay at the Yankee Peddler Inn, Newport, Rhode Island as favorable, despite the diminutive water closet.

The Yankee Peddler Inn is housed in a typical 19th century Greek revival mansions that so typify Newport, and is one of the oldest Historic Inns in Newport.   Like I stated above the Yankee Peddler Inn is centrally located in downtown Newport mere steps from celebrated Bellevue Avenue and the famed Hotel Viking and the toniest shopping areas in this seaside city.

Our Room

Since most of the family was sweeping into town, we reserved a suite, of sorts.  The room was actually two and had two queen-sized beds and a very, very small bathroom.  My sister and daughter shared one bedroom and I took the other.

The fist (common) room housed a queen-sized bed, non-working fireplace, a small 19" television with cable, couch, and small refrigerator.  There was also a (period) chest of drawers and dresser in the room.  The other room also housed a queen-sized bed a chest of drawers, an armchair and the only entrance to the tiny bathroom that I actually had to leave in order to towel off completely.  I queried the assistant manager about the diminutive bathroom and she apologized for the space but, she assured me that it was not typical of those found at the hotel.

About the period furniture...it was a bit too dated for my tastes in that no attempt was made to iron out the more glaring defects.  I have nothing against antique furniture as long as it is functional.  None of the drawers had contact paper in the bottom, which would have been fine if wood splitters did not still populate the drawers.  Needless to say my clothes remained in my duffel bag.

The saving grace(s) of the room were the comfortable beds, full sized pillows-yes I said full sized pillows-and seriously soft bathroom face clothes, hand towels, and towels.  The hotel uses a laundry service.  And of course I have to have high-speed Internet access; the hotel accommodated me and even makes it secure and wireless!

The Yankee Peddler Inn is a bed-and-breakfast and where some such hotels offer a full fledged hot breakfast with signature dishes, the Yankee Peddler Inn serves up a modified continental breakfast with fruits, yogurt, boiled eggs, Canadian bacon, and assorted pastry's (including Belgian waffles), and breads.

My Viewpoint

All and all, I would rate my stay at the Yankee Peddler Inn, Newport, Rhode Island as favorable, despite the diminutive water closet.  The room itself was comfortable, the pillows top-notch, the towels soft (yes, that alone is worth 2.5 stars), the rooms are equipped with cable (though no premium channels) and high-speed wireless Internet.  The negatives included barely useable period furniture, a tiny horrid bathroom, but into everyone's eye some sand must blow.

I love visiting historical homes (my 2nd passion). This one looks pretty but I'd probably freak at the small bathroom. I like my space! :-)

Well our son-in-law generously offered to pay (for Father's Day) two nights anywhere we want to go (in the area i.e. not France:). I guess we'd skip this one but I'm still looking for the perfect r & r. Jo

great pictures of your trip and yes full size pillows as well as real towels can go along way to off set the splinters in the drawers.
