I wasn't "really" going to buy a bike at the time. I just stopped in the local dealer with a friend who had a problem with her 4 wheeler. To pass the time I went into the show room to view all the eye candy. After checking out all of the bigger bikes, I saw a line of bikes along the other wall with substantially lower tags. I thought "That can't be right!" and went to investigate further. I thought these were 1100's. Turns out they were 650's. 3 V-Star Classics and a Custom, along with a Silverado. These things are pretty well tricked out. Rider floorboards, heel-toe shifters, nice low seat,...

2007 650 Custom V-Star
The Bike I own is red with a Silver Strip, it attracts attention all the time. The 650 Custom is easy to ride because it shifts smooth and easy, the balance is perfect. I'm a smaller petite size so I am not very strong to hold up a big heavy bike. The seat is lower so I sit comfortable. This gives me more confidence in riding.
The 650 can do Highway miles with ease, I can go 70 without even knowing, it just glides. The sound of the pipes are not very loud, they are tough sounding, they rumble and growl. If you want a classy look with all the power, the 650 Custom...
read full review »It 's economical for its size . Its a great starter bike for even a novice .
It has plenty of leg room , no cramping for a 6 foot person . Is comfortable on most terrain .
Riding in the ice or rain is a pain , as with any other bike .
Overall is a great value ... More bang for your buck .
Yamaha V-Star 650 is a good bike for the price tag that's associated with it. When I first looked into buying a new bike, I looked at all manufacturers. The one that really stood out as the best value was the Yamaha V-Star 650. For a couple thousand dollars more, you can buy a stripped down Harley Sporter, or you can save the money and get a bike that looks good out of the show room and spend the money personalizing it and end up with the bike you want, rather than a name on a gas tank.
I have the "Classic" with the raven paint & flames. I have stripped all the badges & decals off the bike and...

I'm 5'9" and one of the chief complaints I have is with the location of the handlebars. I can't roll them back far enough to be comfortable (which may be the caused by the installation of the Mustang seat) and need to install a 1" riser to bring them up and back.
The bike winds up nicely, but I am looking for a 6th...
read full review »I bought a used Yamaha V-Star Classic 650 about 9 years ago. I still have the bike but don't ride it that much anymore. I started to ride about 12 years ago on a Yamaha Virago. When I moved up to the V-Star, I notice a big different in freeway rides. The bike was really stable at speed above 80 mph, unlike my Virago. Within a year, I put on like 15,000 miles on the bike. About the only thing I have to maintain was oil changes, air filter, 1 set of spark plugs, and 1 air filter. Always start up on 1st tried, even on cold mornings. I installed a new set of Bub pipes and let me tell...
read full review »Just picked my 650 classic up the other day. Use it instead of my truck for errands and to and from work. What a gas saver !!! Live in Hawaii so will use it all year.. Has plenty power and I agree with the 6th gear. Looked at 750 honda, kawasaki 500 harley 833 and overall for the price looks and ride, I had to make the choice I did. The bike is close to ground, so looking into the oil level glass that is restricted by foot rest means you must lay on the ground and level bike. I am 60 years old and that is one thing I do not like.
All and all very happy so far. Will get K&N oil and air filter...
