Chef Ryan Kida brings it at Yabo
Savvy southwest Florida foodies know to book ahead for a table at tiny Yabo. This 8-table restaurant (with another 8 or so seats at the bar) offers a small menu of hearty Italian entrees. And the food is to die for.
But it's the ambience - as much as anything - that brings folks to Yabo. Kida is a music producer and musician himself, an incredible rock vocalist, whose heart is into producing great music. It just so happens that he's a talented chef as well. But Yabo provides him the means to have a stage, which is used 3-4 nights a week by house musicians. And one night a week, after the second seating has ordered their checks, all the tables are pushed aside and a band sets up on stage for a late night show. Get lucky and Kida himself will be singing, although acts travel across country to make tiny Yabo a pit stop on their tours.
As far as the food goes, you can't go wrong: capellini, veal, lasagna, caprese . . . it's all fantastic. Kida makes his own mozzarella daily, and everything that leaves his kitchen is divine.
Disclaimer: My husband plays guitar at Yabo one night a week. I usually take this opportunity to sit at the bar and enjoy a bite to eat and a glass of wine. It's fun to chat with all the locals who come in; Yabo has lots of happy regulars
The Bottom Line: Libby Loves it!
