Xbox 360 - Gears of War 2 —
I'm not an Xbox kind of guy. I leave all that video game stuff to my kids. They love it, and my eldest is really quite good at it usually beating most games in just a few days without cheat codes. So last week I was strolling through the Mall on my way to Sears to get some tools when I saw a huge sign sitting out for "Gear of War 2". I remembered my sons talking about how excited they were about this game and the preview video they showed me on the Internet. Usually the kids buy their games with their own money, but I figured a surprise was in store so I walked in and purchased a copy.
Like I said, not being a gamer, I cannot review the in's and out's of playing "Gear's of War 2", but there is an aspect of the game of which I feel I am very qualified to make some comments. Most gamers won't get it, but this game is packed with emotion. I guess having served in the Marine Corps I could respect the characters, but it was weird how much in common their emotions during the game equaled the emotions on a field of combat. The nervous joking, the anger, frustration, revenge, sadness and the intense feeling of loss from these animated men blew me away. It's almost like I knew these guys at one time, and I knew that force or inner drive that simply keeps driving you forward when everything in the situation tells you to turn back. This is something men at war face nearly every day, and it's amazing how well "Gears of War 2" captures that feeling.
I will probably remain on the sidelines when it comes to video games unless the industry can turn up the storyline like it has done for "Gears of War 2". Unbelievable! This video game is better than most war pictures Hollywood has cranked out. The truth too is that some of those feeling I really did not want to be reminded of either
