X-ACTO Buzz Battery Pencil Sharpener Review

I never gave much thought to pencils or pencil sharpeners until my son, age five, began kindergarten.  Suddenly, our home became a haven to pencils of all kinds - basic yellow, colored, Star Wars themed, frilly, feather-topped, etc.  

Both of my children loved using pencils and because we had so many, we didn't had the need for a pencil sharpener for several months.  When I couldn't deny our need any longer, I bought one of those cheap plastic ones.  Right away, I realized that we needed something more powerful and faster to handle the vast amount of pencils that we had accumulated. 

Thus began my search for a pencil sharpener that would do a good job but wouldn't break the bank.  I didn't want a bulky desktop one so my search narrowed down to a small battery-operated sharpener.  I found the perfect one when I spotted the X-Acto Buzz Battery Pencil Sharpener, which retails for just over $5. 

The X-Acto Buzz uses 4 "AA" batteries and is portable and lightweight, which makes it convenient to tote in a backpack or to store in a desk.  The sharpener has a safety feature which won't allow the motor to run when the receptacle cover is removed.  So there are no worries when cleaning out the pencil shavings that the sharp blade will turn on.  There is also a cuteness factor to this product because it's available in different colors.  I chose a fun blue color with sparkles, which reminds me of the ocean. 

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase of the X-Acto Buzz Battery Pencil Sharpener.  It's powerful enough to make sharpening a pencil a quick job and safe enough for my kids to use.  We haven't had to replace the batteries yet and its small size is perfect for sitting on my desk.  The only minor complaint that I have is that the shavings can be hard to dislodge from the receptacle if it's too full.  Sometimes I need to use a small object to dig out the shavings but it's not enough of a hassle that I wouldn't recommend this product.
