Wyndham Drake Oakbrook Hotel - Oak Brook, IL —

I planned a weekend getaway for my husband's birthday, and the Wyndham Drake sounded like a great place. I signed up for the Wyndham's guest program, and booked the hotel - everything felt like it was up to par.

However, when we arrived, it was a different story. We were supposed to receive breakfast vouchers, and when I realized we didnt receive them at check-in, I called the front desk. I was put on hold for nearly 10 minutes, and eventually told that someone would call me back. Nobody did, so I went to the front desk, there was some confusion before I finally received my vouchers. We had issues with the wireless internet (free to members of the guest program) and they sent maintenance up - only to have maintenance tell us to call an 800 number. The walls are paper-thin, so if anyone in the hotel is partying it up, you will hear it, which happened to us. The rooms smell old. The parking lot is so crowded/small that you have to use the valet. And on our final day, the service was atrocious. First, the hostess for breakfast ignored us - so long that when someone finally came to help us, we were told they were no longer serving breakfast and we would have to wait for the Sunday brunch. We asked to speak to a manager, which took another 15 minutes, but he apologized and seated us immediately. He also served us coffee, which, while a nice gesture, just went to show how poor the service was in the restaraunt. On check out, there was nobody working the valet station, so the desk clerk had to retreive our car herself. It was not the birthday experience I was hoping for, so when Wyndham sent me an email asking for my comments, I let them know I was dissapointed. I was contacted by the hotel manager, who offered a complimentary night to make things right.

This time around, the stay was better than before, but we didn't eat at the hotel restaurant or use the valet service. Some guests on our floor had been partying a little too hard and made a ruckus in the hallways.

Overall, the Wyndam-Drake Oakbrook is showing its age, particularly with so many newer hotels being built in the area. If I am in the market for a weekend getaway again, it's highly likely I will stay somewhere else.

It's always disappointing to expect a nice place only to find shortcomings once you're there.

I think I would be finding another hotel for the next trip also :) Thanks for letting us know about the poor service at this hotel.
