The Warm Up: How WorkOut keeps it HOT

Okay, first I must admit I was in denial about my reality TV consumption but decided to come clean here and now. Bravo is my go to channel for ridiculous, yet entertaining drama. With shows like Project Runway, Top Chef, and WorkOut... I could watch TV all day like it was my job if I had no self control. For all you TV heads out there... read more TV show ratings here.

The current season 3 of WorkOut airs Tuesdays at 10/9 Central on Bravo.

"Oh the dramz" on WorkOut!

In the wise words of Perez Hilton, "Oh the dramz!" WorkOut brings it for sure. The premise of the show is built around the leading lady, Jackie Warner, founder and owner of Sky Sport & Spa in Beverly Hills. She is one fierce female who has grown her successful career with courage, ego, and savviness. Jackie manages a team of hotties, um... I mean personal trainers, who keep the action and dumbells pumping round the clock. The trainers all bring different personalities to the table. As the testosterone, attitudes, and sweat starts flowing things get heated. Jackie's group is constantly hooking up, hanging out, and gossiping between work outs. The show tries to maintain the purpose of the story by filming activity at the gym. But then there is significant footage shot outside the Sky Sport walls too. The core of the show is all about how Jackie attempts to balance her love life, trainers, the gym, multiple business endeavors, and sanity all at once.

Sky Sport & Spa is literally located in the sunny skies of California. The gym is on the top floor of a posh building in the heart of Beverly Hills. Anyone would love to spend time working out there... but it will cost ya!

Jackie and her crew are real life trainers who offer their services to anyone who can afford them. According to JackieWarner.com, Jackie will train you at SkySport for a mere $400 per hour. Her minions run in the $100/hr. range. Guess that's what a hit show and instant celeb status brings!

Sky Lab

Sky Lab is one of Jackie's many projects, this one being the most honorable. Sky Lab is a life-changing program offered to severly overweight men and women who have finally chosen a new, healthier lifestyle. The program is designed to ignite both physical and mental transformation for the clients who are chosen to participate. People actually have to "try out" to be a Sky Lab client. They must not only show dedication and commitment but also be in dire need of help. Jackie doesn't accept people who just need to lose a little weight. She's searching for high risk individuals who are obese. One Sky Sport trainer is assigned to each Sky Lab client. The trainer's responsibility is to be a lifestyle mentor on all fronts: working out, dieting, and most importantly counseling. The purpose of the program is to help people get to the bottom of their problems with weight and over-eating.

SkyShop

Jackie also created her own line of men and women's fitness wear. I believe it was season 2 of WorkOut that detailed the process Jackie went through to finance, design and develop her own clothing line. Her trainers wear her clothes as their gym "uniform". Anyone can purchase Jackie Warner's clothing as well.

Personally, I like the fitness wear but it's not really made for the conservative type. The girls tops and pants can be pretty tight, short and often have some plunging necklines or low rise waists. There are a few more modest items available too though. The guys line is more about toughness, showing muscles and displaying trendy graphics.

The cost for Jackie's apparel is a little on the high end. For example, a simple women's cotton t-shirt runs about $40.

Work Out DVD: One-on-One Training with Jackie

Now for the last business endeavor of Miss Jackie (that I know of)... The Work Out Exercise DVD. I personally can't review this product yet because I've never used it but I'd be curious to hear what YOU think if you have. The exercise program is a 20 minute work out that claims to target your upper body, lower body and core. The WorkOut Training DVD is about $13.

The Cool Down: Why I bet you'll start watching too.

I totally recommend watching WorkOut if you enjoy exercise topics, health & weight issues and let's just be honest here... high drama, pure sexiness and mucho eye candy. I failed to mention earlier that Jackie is also a lesbian and highly regarded advocate for the gay community. The show draws an intrigued audience of both straight and homosexual viewers. I've heard rumors that Jackie has a huge following of straight women who look up to her strong work ethic, intense personality and passion for what drives her in life. My guy friends love the show too because there is guaranteed to be at least one lipstick, lesbian make-out session per episode. This may or may not be in the show's contract with Bravo TV. Oh come on... you know you want to watch WorkOut now! Don't kid yourself.

Thanks for the info--I had not heard of this show, but then again we're on the kids channels more often than not when the TV is on.

Ohhh, I watch this every now and then. Drama is definitely a large element. I remember when Jackie's girlfriend threw a drink at her. Drama indeed! Great review!

I saw this once and thought it was a fitness show...but it wasn't. I honestly didn't know if it was reality or just a drama/comedy or what. I should give it another watch.

OMG, I love this show!! Although, from looking at my pudgy body you wouldn't think so (lol). I feel like I know Jackie and her trainers and your review makes me want to actually go to Sky Sport and train with them. Anyone have $400 that you can lend me? ;)

I am a Work Out fan, even though I don't think she should have fired Brian P. Your review is great--totally comprehensive!

I agree. Bravo has become my station of choice for TV watching. I have to admit I haven't been watching this season of WorkOut as much as I did last time, but thank goodness for the thousands and thousands of re-runs. lol

This sounds like a great show, Meredith! I feel a lot better knowing that I'm not the only reality t.v. "junkie" out there. I had to smile a little when you mentioned the exercise DVD. How much do you want to bet that -- even as I write this -- Patty is ordering that DVD. She's so cute and dedicated to working out. She works out and I get exercise reading her work-out reviews. HAHA! I'm going to give Work Out a shot, I think, just to see what's going on! Thanks for a great and entertaining review. I have a feeing I may end up being a "review junkie"!

"Lipstick, lesbian make-out session?" Hmm. Intriguing.

Ah, seriously, I'll probably never watch this; I'm not exactly a big TV watcher, but this is one heck of a review!

In response to GeorgeChabot's comment from May 22, 2008 at 4:40PM:

Me too. Because of disabilities involving my lower back no sit ups or those type of exercises. Then again a lot of people are physically challenged when it comes to exercising. hehehehe : )

I have not watched this show, I assume it is a lot like the gym with a lesbian twist. Thank you for the great review.

Great review, Meredith. Looks like some of us have to work out to be able to wear the work out clothes. : )
