Wishbone in Chicago is one of my favorite brunch spots

The lines are long, the people waiting can be obnxious (and hung over), but the southern cooking at Wishbone in Chicago always makes me happy. That is, for brunch.

Wishbone offers a wide selection of traditional southern/cajun entree's. But, perhaps my favorite item on the menu is the crunchy french toast. It is french toast dipped in frosted corn flakes. It is never soggy and always the perfect crunch.

The decor of Wishbone is also fun and quarky. It is bright, colorful and happy.

The customer service isnt always the best, but it is often because the place is so busy that the waiters and waitresses just can't keep up with the crowds.

If you are looking for a southern breakfast, or a special treat (like crunchy french toast), try Wishbone in Chicago. It wont let you down.

Wishbone also does serve Lunch and Dinner but I find those less interesting. The food is okay, but not great. My husband is from the South, and he doesnt like their dinner. He is, however, a fan of brunch.

p.s. On Sunday mornings, be prepared for some seriously hungover patrons. Despite that, it is loud and kid friendly and appropriate for all ages.

Ever been to Aurelios? They started in Homewood. Their thin crust is one of my favs as well as Giordanos.

Ahhhh.... Pizza. I am a thin crust Italian girl. Those are harder to come by in downtown Chicago. Mostly everyone visits Chicago for the deep dish, so that is what you find downtown. Lou Malnati's is a big favorite of people (buttery crust and layered pizza). Personally, I am not a huge fan-- too rough on the stomach. Then, there is Carmens and Giordano's. I think I like Carmen's the best of them all. But, again, thin pizza is more my thing. LaRosa in Skokie, IL on Golf is probably my fav. There is also Dagastino's in Wrigleyville (Southport and Addison). I like both of their thins. :)

Jolie, after living in Homewood for my younger years and visiting Chgo often, I have to agree with your review. Noise is a problem but the food is very good and worth the wait. I am curious if you have a favorite Pizza place to review?

I agree with Cyndi and I prefer to use not so fresh bread as it gives you a cushion in case you let it sit in the liquid a tad too long. ;)

Usually mushy French Toast means you let it sit in the egg/milk or whatever dip. Dip quick in the liquid, in anything dry and immediately in a medium hot pan. One piece at a time. This prevents the bread from soaking up too much liquid and coming out mushy.

It is sooo good. Every time I have tried to replicate it at home, they are mushy. I wonder if I am putting in too much egg? Let me know if you do it and get it right. :) Then, you can teach me how!
